Photo gallery

This exhibit comprises a selection of twelve historic photographs depicting the life and times of Queensland’s major colonial prison for men on St Helena Island.

By the end of the nineteenth century, the prison had become a ‘model’ prison, housing over 300 prisoners in a maze of buildings surrounded by a high stockade wall.
